Moving Toward Abundance

A field of yellow flowers.

A message to our Greater Share community.

Summer has arrived, and owing to my agrarian roots, this always means dark, fertile soil in which something new can grow and where possibilities are planted to bear fruit in some season yet to come. Spring is a harbinger of optimism following winter's hardship, and the seeds sown give way to Summer's steady state of plenty. As 2023 moves into Summer, we at Greater Share continue tending the fertile soil in which something new can grow and fostering the conditions necessary to achieve abundance.

My six months as CEO have proven a rewarding and transformative challenge. I have been in discussions with numerous stakeholders. Our impact model has the potential to inspire transformation in both the financial and philanthropic realms. As many of you know, our approach is unique in combining the generosity of our donors with the expertise of our private equity partners to benefit our partner NGOs.

Given the challenging economic circumstances we all face, it is not surprising that in this environment, our work has faced a formidable task. We have focused most of our efforts on growing our base while stewarding our current donors and partners. Transparency, accountability, and sustainability are guiding principles in everything we do, ensuring your money is wisely and effectively used.

Staying true to our nature, we maintain a fiercely optimistic outlook. We recognize that our endeavor is the first of its kind and warrants teaching as we are learning. We have witnessed promising interest from donor-advised funds (DAFs) in the US and the UK as they focus on supporting charities and display eagerness to join our mission, given their existing commitment to making a difference. Through our collective efforts, we can mobilize money and effect systemic change.

Shared prosperity does not happen automatically. We create it when we choose community. Authentic abundance does not lie in secured stockpiles of food, cash, influence, or affection but in belonging to a community where we can give those goods to others who need them – and receive them from others when we are in need. And so it is with Greater Share.

As most wisdom traditions know: if you receive a gift, you keep it alive not by clinging to it but by passing it along. Once again, we extend our deepest gratitude for your incredible support and unwavering belief in our mission. We are sincerely grateful to have you accompany us on our journey of making Greater Share a success.

Warm regards –

Dana K. Bezerra, CEO
